Welcome 2021! What Are You Bringing To The Party?

The start of a new year means a fresh start and new goals for the year ahead.

My goals are drawn up as a mud map subscribing to 3 practices: SMARTER, the 7Cs, and the 7 Pillars of Well-being.

SMARTER is the acronym for making your goals specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound, evaluative, and rewarding.
The 7Cs are claiming my goal, collaborating along the way, being consistent in my actions, maintaining a clear focus, being courageous, getting myself a cheerleader and celebrating when I reach a goal.
The 7 Pillars of Well-being are my occupational satisfaction, physical and mental wellness, social objectives, intellectual growth, spiritual purpose, and emotional intelligence.

Here are my goal setting steps that may work for you:

1. Identify my goals being specific. I define exactly what each goal is and then I claim it. I put it in writing and keep it close at hand to help me quantify my results and recognise success.
2. Make my goals measurable and be consistent when applying actions.  This is how I will see progress over time and even if others attempt to discourage me, I stay the course and maintain a clear focus.  It takes courage to set a goal and follow through with a plan, so I trust in myself and pat myself on the back along the way. From the outset, I also identify milestones so I can push through adversity.  My plan also identifies who I will need to collaborate with along the way because there is little that can be achieved without others.
3. Set myself up for success with attainable but courageous goals and I find myself a cheerleader who is dependable and will champion me and keep me accountable.
4. Keep my goals relevant making sure they will contribute to the big picture.
5. Goals are time-bound creating urgency and increasing my chances of success.
6. Goal are evaluative so my plan and progress can be regularly reviewed, and amendments made as needed.
7. I reward myself when I achieve a goal, this spikes dopamine and gives me a surge of pleasure which in turn increases my motivation and productivity to achieve the next goal.  I usually decide upon the reward when I set the goal given me even more motivation.

So, when you are goal setting remember SMARTER, the 7Cs, and the 7 Pillars of Well-being.
